Macmillan Project / Programme Officer (MPPO) – North Highland Cancer Information and Support Centre
Location: Thurso, Caithness
Part Time, 14.5 hours per week
Initial contract 18 months (extendable to 2 years)
Salary: £11.6k per annum (plus expenses)
Reporting to: Macmillan Health and Wellbeing Manager, NHCISC Trustees and Macmillan Cancer Support
Overview
The NHCISC is a small independent charity who offer emotional support and information about treatments and services to anyone affected by cancer in the North of Scotland. The charity recently benefitted from a funding award from Macmillan Cancer Support to enhance services and expand its reach.
General
The Macmillan Project / Programme Officer (MPPO) will be responsible for developing the way the NHCISC communicates with all its users. This includes staff, stakeholders, volunteers, members and partner organisations. The appointed person will be responsible for working closely with MHWM, the MVC and the NHCISC Trustees to develop and enhance services. Good communication skills and an empathetic manner are key attributes for the appointment.
Main Objectives of Post
General. Working together with the Macmillan Health and Wellbeing Manager (MHWM) and Macmillan Volunteer Coordinator (MVC) to achieve the Macmillan Intervention objectives devised from feedback given by centre service users in a Smart Survey back in 2022. The appointed person will help to develop and raise awareness of the charity through media outlets and publications, devise and implement fundraising projects, set up appointment and rotational software and generally improve the communication of cancer support services to a wider group of people living with cancer.

As the MPPO you will:
- be innovative in finding communication solutions for all.
- develop our website, Facebook and WhatsApp or other appropriate messaging systems.
- create external communication links and pathways for members to other agencies.
- deliver training to members so they can communicate more effectively by using smart phones, tablets and apps and other tools that improve accessibility.
- create an online rota system for the volunteers and a calendar that can be seen by all and managed by a few.
- working with others to look at smart ways of receiving donations by using technology.
- Have a creative outlook and a willingness to be innovative in developing fundraising initiatives,
Key points and dates for applicants
- This post is funded by Macmillan Cancer Support through the NHCISC and will be issued on an initial 18-month contract including a 3-month probationary period but may be extended to 2 years.
- The closing date for applications is the 30th of November 2024 with Interviews being held the week commencing Monday 9th December 2024. These are target dates and may be adjusted accordingly.
