A vacancy has arisen within FCA programme for a craft technician control & instrumentation. The purpose of the post is the delivery of maintenance. The individual will support plant maintenance activities.

Dounreay is a former experimental nuclear facility which is currently in the decommissioning phase. It is situated in the far north of Scotland near the town of Thurso. The Fuel Cycle Area maintenance team support the programme areas to deliver compliant maintenance and project tasks in accordance with our regulatory, statutory, security and environmental obligations. The successful candidate will be part of a cohesive and highly skilled team who carry out work to a very high quality as is expected of a nuclear licenced site. Responsibilities:
- Liaise with suppliers/manufacturers on technical issues
- Mentor apprenticeship development and may be an SVQ Assessor
- Produce fit for purpose job reports describing accurately the work that has been carried out, recommendations, solutions, PMI amendment details, conditions assessments, etc
- Assess the effectiveness of maintenance procedures and provide required amendments and changes
- Identify and rectify routine maintenance problems where applicable
- Utilise diagnostic techniques to identify faults plants, systems and components
- Reinstate the work area after completing the maintenance of plant, systems and components
- Identify and report common equipment performance issues
- Carry out planned maintenance activities and defect rectification efficiently, includes defect investigation of causes and proposal of solutions whilst maintaining a focus on programme and resources
- Identify obsolescence and end-of-life issues
- Conduct safe and effective handover of plant and equipment to others and accept and confirm responsibility for the control of the plant and equipment within the work area isolation boundary
- Identify areas/opportunities for improvement processes, working practice, equipment utilisation, etc, offering solutions where appropriate
- Perform the responsibilities of Authorisations relevant to the post. Hold a relevant disciplined nominated appointment
Aptitudes and experience:
- Instrument Apprenticeship plus HNC in Engineering or equivalent qualifications plus experience
- Demonstrable Instrument maintenance experience
- Post specific capability analysis assessment
